Expert on Future of Power, Freedom, Justice, and Democracy
Jamie Susskind is an author, speaker, and practising barrister. A past Fellow of Harvard University’s Berkman Klein Center for Internet and Society, he studied history and politics at Magdalen College, Oxford, and graduated first in his year before turning to the law.
"One of the great public intellectual rock stars of our time"
By the age of twenty-one Jamie had already written speeches for Members of Parliament in the United Kingdom House of Commons and for United States Senators. As a teenager, Jamie was ranked Best Schools Debater in the world and in 2007 became only the second commoner in history to speak at the opposition despatch box in the British House of Lords. At Oxford University, he was awarded the Edward Tomlinson Memorial Prize for the best speech delivered at the Oxford Union. And whilst qualifying as a barrister he was awarded the Honourable Society of Gray’s Inn’s most prestigious advocacy prize. Jamie has published about digital technology and its impact on economics and democracy in Wired, The New York Times and the Daily Telegraph.
Jamie discusses the effects of technology on politics, looking at how AI and machine learning, the internet of things, robotics, blockchain, and virtual reality will change the way we live together. He speculates on how technology will be used to control individuals and society and what new codes of morality and ethics the future will demand.
